1. What does the 4-day Inca Trail tour include?

The 4-day Inca Trail tour includes transportation from Cusco to the starting point, a professional bilingual guide, porters to carry camping equipment, entrance fees to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu, all meals during the trek, tents, and the return train to Cusco. Most agencies also offer a pre-trek briefing and pick-up from your accommodation. Sleeping bags, trekking poles, and additional personal porters are not usually included, although they can be rented. This comprehensive service allows you to enjoy the trek without worrying about logistics, focusing solely on the experience.

Preparing physically will allow you to enjoy the trek more. It’s recommended to start training one or two months in advance, doing long walks, cardiovascular exercises, and leg strengthening exercises. Practicing weighted climbs helps you adapt to the effort you’ll make during the trek. It’s important to acclimatize in Cusco at least two or three days before starting the trek to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. During the trek, walk at your own pace, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol. With good preparation and a positive attitude, you’ll be able to fully enjoy every section of the historic Inca Trail.

During the Inca Trail, you’ll enjoy complete and nutritious meals prepared by expert chefs who accompany the group. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served with fresh and varied ingredients, combining traditional Peruvian dishes with international options. Hot drinks and energy snacks are also included. If you have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free), you can request them when booking. The quality and flavor of the food often exceed expectations, and many travelers highlight the dedication of the kitchen team. Eating well is key to maintaining your energy and enjoying every stage of the journey.

Camping on the Inca Trail is a magical experience in close contact with nature. Porters set up the tents before your arrival, and at the end of each day you enjoy hot meals and a well-deserved rest. Nights can be cold, so it’s recommended to bring thermal clothing and a good sleeping bag. The campsites have basic bathrooms and common areas, but no showers. Sleeping under the Andean stars, surrounded by mountains and Inca ruins, creates a unique atmosphere that complements the adventure of hiking to Machu Picchu.

The 4-day Inca Trail is the most iconic trek to Machu Picchu because it follows the original route used by the Incas. It combines history, culture, and nature into a single experience, traversing spectacular landscapes, archaeological ruins, and diverse ecosystems. Unlike other tours, you’ll arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), enjoying a unique view of the sunrise over the sacred city. This spiritual connection and the trail’s rich cultural heritage make it an unparalleled experience, perfect for those seeking an authentic and memorable adventure.
